NY Acts on Energy Highway Items, Meant to Reduce Congestion
The New York PSC yesterday took action on several major items highlighted in Governor Cuomo's Energy Highway Blueprint designed to ease transmission congestion, which the PSC said will, among other things, help lower electricity prices in downstate New York. Among other things, the Commission announced that it would establish a first-of-its-kind combined proceeding under Article VII of the Public Service Law for consideration of alternating current (AC) transmission projects that meet the Commission's objectives for congestion relief in the Mohawk/Hudson Valley corridor. The PSC also addressed portions of a contingency plan for the potential retirement of the Indian Point nuclear plant, but according to a news release, such immediate action did not include consideration of the PSC's contemplated RFPs for new capacity.
