Consolidated Edison has forecast that the number of customers taking supply from an ESCO will reach 1.2 million customers by 2017, according to testimony in its current rate cases.

"The competitive retail market in Con Edison’s territory is continuing to experience substantial growth in the number of customer enrollments," ConEd said.

Over 900,000 customers at ConEd take competitive supply from an ESCO as of December 2012, representing an annual increase of about 100,000 customers over approximately the last two years.

ConEd has forecast that ESCO enrollments will continue to increase through the 2013-2017 period, with over 1,200,000 customers taking supply service from ESCOs by 2017.
