A shocking six Pennsylvania electric utilities saw a decline in residential shopping in the most recent week, according to the latest stats from the Pennsylvania PUC.
The six utilities seeing a fall in residential shopping include five of the seven major EDCs (or 70%) -- Duquesne Light, PECO, Penelec, PPL, and West Penn Power. Pike County also saw a decline in residential shopping, but does not have migration data updated weekly (comparison is from June 10 to July 3)
Statewide, from about July 3 to July 10 (reporting date varies slightly by utility), Pennsylvania saw residential shopping decline by an aggregate of nearly 1,700 accounts, versus the week-ago decline of 300 accounts. The most recent week does include the July 4 holiday and impact on meter reading schedules.
This is also the first time that Pennsylvania has seen aggregate residential shopping fall for two consecutive weeks.
Specifically, from about July 3 to July 10 (report date varies slightly by utility), the weekly growth (loss) in residential electric customers on competitive supply at each EDC was:
Duquesne Light (6) Met-Ed 441 PECO (910) Penelec (81) Penn Power 134 PPL (1,060) West Penn Power (176)
During the June 27 to July 3 reporting period, only three utilities had seen a fall in residential shopping: Duquesne Light, PECO, and PPL.
