DTE: More Support in Lowering Michigan Choice Cap Rather Than Expanding It

If Michigan decides to alter the current 10% electric choice cap, DTE Energy sees "more energy" in lowering the cap, rather than expanding it, executives said during an earnings call Friday.
"And in terms of dealing with the issue around choice, I think there is actually growing sentiment that having this bifurcated market, where you have 10% of the market at choice, which really represents about 1% of the customers, probably doesn't make sense. And if this thing doesn't stay where it is, there seems to be more energy around taking that down, not up," said David Meador, DTE Energy Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer
A report from the governor's office concerning energy policy, including choice, is due this fall.
