Pennsylvania Utilities Identify Retail Suppliers in Referral Programs; While Low, Participation Sufficient for Implementation at all EDCs

Although participation is low among electric generation suppliers, all of the Standard Offer customer referral programs established by the Pennsylvania PUC received enough participation to move forward, including at Duquesne Light where a few weeks ago, the program's future was uncertain given a lack of participation.

Specifically, Duquesne Light now has one EGS participating in the program, which was set to launch Friday. Duquesne Light did not identify the specific EGS.

At PPL, where the Standard Offer program began with the start of August, three EGSs are participating -- PPL EnergyPlus, FirstEnergy Solutions, and NextEra Energy. Only one of those suppliers is participating for small business customers, however.

Through the first week of August, PPL saw about 500 residential customers per day enrolling in the Standard Offer program. Enrollment information for the second week of the program was not yet available. There were less than 100 small business customers that have participated through one week of the program.

At PECO, three EGSs are participating in the Standard Offer program, which is set to begin today. PECO said that suppliers can join the program each month as it continues, "and it is our expectation that additional suppliers will join as the program unfolds."

EGSs currently participating in the PECO Standard Offer program are YEP Energy, IGS Energy and NextEra Energy.
