The Public Utility Commission of Texas has created two dockets concerning the sharing of customer information.
First, the PUCT assigned Project 42029 for a Rulemaking Related to the Implementation of PURA 39.107(k).
PURA 39.107(k) provides that, "The commission by rule shall prohibit an electric utility or transmission and distribution utility from selling, sharing, or disclosing information generated, provided, or otherwise collected from an advanced metering system or meter information network, including information used to calculate charges for service, historical load data, and any other customer information. The commission shall allow an electric utility or transmission and distribution utility to share information with an affiliated corporation, or other third-party entity, if the information is to be used only for the purpose of providing electric utility service to the customer or other customer-approved services."
Additionally, the PUCT assigned Project 42030 for a, "project to evaluate sharing of customer information with third parties for customer approved services."
