The Maine PUC issued an order deferring consideration of a proposed long-term contract with the utilities for the construction of a new natural gas-fired electric generating facility.
The nature and location of the proposal was redacted in the PUC's order.
The proposal had been made in response to an RFP to acquire long-term contracts, "that would reduce electricity costs for Maine consumers and/or serve as a hedge against price volatility."
The PUC did state that the proposed project, "may have system reliability benefits within the northern Maine area," and deferred consideration in order to consider the proposal as part of its overall consideration of all potential reliability solutions in Docket No. 2012-00529
