Sharyland Utilities, L.P. will be mailing to customers a letter informing them that they must select a retail electric provider by April 13, 2014 if they do not wish to be transitioned to the default retail electric provider.
Sharyland Utilities, L.P. covers the Stanton, Colorado City, Brady, and Celeste territories (the former Cap Rock service area), and not Sharyland's original McAllen territory.
Though final approval of uncontested retail delivery tariffs is still required, Sharyland Utilities is scheduled to transition to retail choice in May 2014.
In the customer letter, Sharyland Utilities informs customers that:
"You must select a REP by April 13, 2014. If you do not, Sharyland will randomly assign you to a Default REP, who will then sell you electricity with a market-based, month-to-month variable rate which may be higher than competitive rate offers. However, if you get assigned to a Default REP, you will still have the opportunity to select a REP on your own and switch away from the Default REP without penalty."
As previously reported, the default REPs are:
Ambit Energy Champion Energy Services Cirro Energy Gexa Energy Green Mountain MidAmerican Energy Company (non-residential only) Reliant Energy Retail Services TXU Energy Retail Company
"Starting in mid-February, you can visit PowerToChoose.org to compare offers and plans provided by REPs based on price, contract terms, and other factors that are important to you," the Sharyland notice states.
