Michigan Initiates Collaborative to Develop Natural Gas Supplier Price Comparison Website
Copyright 2014 EnergyChoiceMatters.com.
The Michigan PSC directed four Michigan natural gas utilities to participate in a collaborative proceeding addressing the creation of a gas choice price comparison website, and invited alternative gas suppliers, other regulated natural gas utilities and others to participate.
Every regulated gas utility having a customer choice program was required to participate in the collaborative -- Consumers Energy Company, DTE Gas Company, SEMCO Energy Gas Company, and Michigan Gas Utilities Corp.
A supplier price comparison website had first been proposed by DTE Gas Company (MichCon) as part of changes to its choice tariff, but the PSC declined to rule on the request in that specific case in favor of initiating a statewide collaborative.
At the initial collaborative session, Staff shall make a presentation to the participants regarding the issues, which should include but not be limited to administration of the website, data reporting requirements, the scope of any staff review of underlying prices, mandatory versus voluntary participation, enforcement, and website design options.
The collaborative shall finish its work by June 30, 2014. A Staff report on the collaborative and recommendations are due by July 22, 2014.
Case No. U-17580
