Maryland Does Not Approve Supplier's Request to Expand Residential Service to New Areas, Invites Supplier to Re-apply in Six Months

The Maryland PSC did not approve a request from Viridian Energy to expand the residential electric service areas which it is authorized to serve to include Potomac Edison, Delmarva, SMECO, and Choptank Electric Cooperative, after the Office of People's Counsel had raised concerns about complaints against Viridian in commenting on the application to expand residential authority. The Commission "invited" Viridian to submit an application in six months to expand its authority to serve the residential customer class in these service areas if desired. The PSC did grant Viridian authority to serve C&I electric customers in these four new territories.
