Maine Discloses BHE Default Service Suppliers, Confirms Nature of Large Customer Default Service After Rejecting Bids

The Maine PUC has disclosed the winning Standard Offer suppliers at Bangor Hydro-Electric.

The PUC designated TransCanada Power Marketing Ltd as the Standard Offer provider to serve two-thirds of a 66% load tranche of the residential and small non-residential class in the BHE service territory for the term beginning March 1, 2015.

The designated New Brunswick Power Marketing Corporation as the Standard Offer provider to serve one-third of a 66% load tranche of the residential and small nonresidential class the BHE service territory for the term beginning March 1, 2015.

The PUC designated TransCanada as the Standard Offer provider for 80% of the medium commercial and industrial class, and NextEra Energy Power Marketing, LLC for the remaining 20% of that class.

The Commission did not receive any acceptable bids for the large customer class in the BHE territory, and directed BHE to submit a plan addressing the provision of service to such customers.

The PUC's written order, which was released after a confidentiality period, confirms that BHE's plan for large customer default service, "should mirror as much as possible the current structure for establishing customer prices and supplier payments."
