A customer complaint forwarded by the Connecticut Attorney General to PURA alleges that a sales agent marketing for one of the Connecticut Clean Energy Options suppliers impersonated a state employee.

Specifically, an employee from the Office of the State Comptroller who was approached by the sales rep alleges that the sales rep for one of the REC suppliers stated, after being rebuffed in their pitch, "You might as well talk to me as we are a State Agency and someone will be back to see you".

"His attitude intimidating towards me [sic] and he had a clip board covering his lanyard so I could not get a name," the complaint alleges.

The complaint also alleged that the agent said, "The Secretary of the State has signed up"

The AG said in referring the complaint to PURA that, "This complaint raises serious allegations concerning the marketing practices on behalf of the Connecticut Clean Options Program."
