PSC Disbands Retail Competition Working Group

The District of Columbia PSC is disbanding the Retail Competition Working Group.

In 1999, the Commission established the Retail Competition Working Group to make recommendations to the Commission on the steps required to implement retail competition in the District of Columbia. Since its establishment, the RCWG has submitted various reports on matters pertaining to the implementation of a competitive retail electricity market in the District of Columbia. In 2002, the Commission directed the RCWG to continue monitoring the technical feasibility of implementing seamless moves in the District of Columbia. Additionally, in 2007, the Commission directed the RCWG to file annual reports on consolidated billing issued by competitive electricity suppliers

"While the RCWG has provided the Commission and the public valuable information regarding these matters over the years, we believe it is time to sunset the RCWG, effective with the date of this [December 17] Order," the PSC said.

"No further reports are required. We sincerely appreciate the RCWG's efforts over these many years. The information provided has provided valuable guidance to the Commission in the implementation of competition in the District's retail electricity market. Any further action that the Commission will undertake regarding matters assigned to the RCWG will be addressed in subsequent Commission orders, as needed," the PSC said
