TXU Energy has launched TXU Energy Solar Club, a 60-month fixed electricity product which, "gives Texans membership in a shared solar club that provides the environmental benefit of up to 500 monthly kilowatt-hours of electricity backed by the Texas sun," the company said
TXU calls the plan, "a first-of-its-kind Texas shared solar," program
Under the plan, the customer's first 500 kWh of electricity each month are purchased from solar farms located in Texas. When the customer uses more than 500 kWh in a month, the customer will receive standard energy for the rest of their usage at a rate that is fixed for 60 months
A monthly solar membership fee of $14.95 applies.
In the Oncor service area, TXU's Energy Solar Club 60 plan has an all-in average fixed rate, at 1,000 kWh usage, of 11.8¢/kWh. This reflects an energy rate of 4.8¢/kWh for the first 500 kWh, an energy rate of 7.8¢/kWh for usage above 500 kWh, a pass-through of TDU fees, and the monthly $14.95 membership fee
The plan includes a $395 early cancellation fee.
Solar power and renewable energy credits to back the TXU Energy Solar Club will come from existing solar facilities in Texas, as well as from Luminant's recently announced Castle Gap solar facility, which is scheduled to open in late 2016.
