Haymeadow Solar is developing a utility-scale solar project for the greater Houston area, and is highlighting the project's location to REPs and end-users seeking to avoid the risks of congestion
Located approximately 40 miles south of Houston and 20 miles north of Freeport, the project will have year-round average peak hourly output to the grid of approximately 60+ MW.
With its location in ERCOT’s Houston Hub, Haymeadow Solar said that the solar farm will offer power consumers a local option thereby avoiding the pitfalls of transmission congestion.
Haymeadow's team is currently engaged in the various aspects of project development, particularly discussions with prospective off-takers. The project, originally contemplated to be 50 MW, has seen substantial indicative interest, and will likely expand to 70 MW with over-subscription, the company said
Haymeadow Solar highlighted its flexibility in deal structure, with innovative structures that have attracted interest from off-takers
"Although we are pleased to discuss traditional PPAs with off-takers, we believe there may be alternative transaction structures that optimize the economics of power prices and solar tax incentive programs to deliver a very interesting long-term value proposition to the project’s customers. To our knowledge these alternative structures have not been a featured component of utility-scale solar to date," said Preston Ochsner, one of the developers.
The project is expected to be in-service by the summer of 2018.
