ERCOT issues a final determination stating that NRG Texas Power LLC's Greens Bayou Unit 5 (GBY_GBY_5) is needed for Reliability Must-Run (RMR) Service.
NRG had previously filed a notification of suspension of operations for the Houston-located plant, under which the plant was to be mothballed indefinitely beginning June 27, 2016.
"ERCOT has now completed additional studies and confirmed the initial determination that the Greens Bayou Unit 5 is necessary for RMR Service," ERCOT said
"ERCOT anticipates executing an RMR Agreement by June 1, 2016 in order to have the Greens Bayou Unit 5 ready for RMR Service by 2016 Summer peak conditions. ERCOT will issue a subsequent Market Notice with additional information in accordance with paragraph (6) of Protocol Section 3.14.1.2 within 24 hours of signing an RMR Agreement with the Resource Entity," ERCOT said
EnergyChoiceMatters.com would note that NRG Energy has previously argued that the Houston Import transmission project, which is to allow more generation into the constrained Houston zone, was not needed based on reliability criteria
