Green Mountain Energy Launches Natural Gas Service

Green Mountain Energy has launched natural gas service, with a 100% carbon offset product.
Currently, Green Mountain Energy is offering "Carbon Conscious" natural gas service in Illinois
The Carbon Conscious natural gas service is available as a bundle with a 100% wind electricity plan (national wind RECs) or as a stand-alone natural gas supply plan.
Rates were not available online.

On November 30, the Maryland PSC also granted Green Mountain Energy a natural gas supplier license.
A FAQ for the carbon offset natural gas product posits, "Why is Green Mountain selling fossil fuels? They are not green," with the answer of, "Natural gas is still among the most efficient fuel sources for heating and is used extensively in many parts of the country. Green Mountain offers consumers a cleaner natural gas option. By choosing Green Mountain Energy, you're offsetting your carbon footprint and reducing your environmental impact. Because we purchase carbon offsets for the gas consumed by our customers, we are offsetting the carbon released into the air by burning natural gas."
