Pennsylvania Reverses December Residential Electric Shopping Decline During January; Duquesne Light Sees Jump In Shopping Losses

Pennsylvania saw a return to statewide residential electric shopping growth in January, after a statewide decline in the number of residential electric customers on competitive supply during December 2016
From late December 2016 to late January 2017 (reporting date varies slightly by utility), Pennsylvania saw the aggregate number of electric customers on competitive supply increase by nearly 1,700 accounts. That compares to a decline in the aggregate number of electric customers on competitive supply of nearly 1,100 accounts during December
PPL continues to see residential electric shopping decline month to month, as does Duquesne Light.
Notably, the monthly decline in Duquesne Light residential shopping jumped to a loss of 600 accounts during January 2017, the highest level since June 2016 (monthly losses have not exceeded 250 accounts in recent months, and the loss was 200 accounts in December).
The change in the number of residential customers on competitive supply at each utility from late December 2016 to late January 2017 (reporting date varies slightly by utility) was:
