Parent of WGL Energy Reports Higher Retail Energy Marketing Margin

In reporting earnings for the fourth quarter of 2019, AltaGas Ltd., the parent of WGL Energy, reported, "higher margins from the retail gas and power marketing businesses."

For the fourth quarter, AltaGas saw higher contributions to EBITDA from WGL Energy retail marketing due to higher volumes and improved margins compared to the same period in 2018.

For the fourth quarter of 2019, U.S. retail power marketing volumes were 3,291 GWh, compared to 2,911 GWh in the same period of 2018. The increase was primarily due to an increase in customers served by the business.

For the year ended December 31, 2019, U.S. retail power market volumes were 13,218 GWh, compared to 5,906 GWh in the same period of 2018. The increase was primarily due to the addition of WGL for the first half of the year and the previously mentioned factors impacting the fourth quarter of 2019.

For the fourth quarter of 2019, U.S. retail gas marketing sales volumes were 20,131 Mmcf, compared to 20,750 Mmcf in the same period of 2018. The decrease was primarily due to warmer weather in the fourth quarter of 2019 compared to the same period of 2018

For the year ended December 31, 2019, U.S. retail gas marketing sales volumes were 64,460 Mmcf, compared to 28,906 Mmcf in the same period of 2018. The increase in retail sales volumes was primarily due to the addition of WGL volumes for the first half of 2019.
