FirstEnergy Ohio Rider GEN Rates To More Than Double For Residential, Commercial Customers (Official Tariff Filed)

The FirstEnergy Ohio utilities have filed an updated Rider GEN for the period beginning June 1, 2023

While it has been forecast that the FirstEnergy Ohio EDCs' retail generation rates would more than double based on the completion of the SSO procurements, the FirstEnergy Ohio utilities' new tariff filing is the first time the rates have been translated into official retail rates

Rider GEN represents the majority of the bypassable SSO and reflects energy and capacity. Additional riders, including but not limited to, reconciliation (GCR), renewable compliance (AER), and non-distribution uncollectibles (NDU) are also bypassable

As more specifically detailed below for each company and mass market class, the combined Rider GEN (energy and capacity) for residential and general service-secondary customers is increasing by over 110%, from about 5.6 cents per kWh, to over 12 cents per kWh

The new Rider GEN amounts are below, with a comparison to current rates. The Rider GEN amounts listed below reflect the combination of the energy and capacity charges under Rider GEN, as both are charged on a per kWh basis to the relevant customer classes. Rates below reflect on the standard rates for a class, and not any optional time of day options, etc.

Note: that chart below is based on the FirstEnergy EDCs' most recent filing with PUCO on April 13 as of publication time. The EDCs had filed an original tariff on April 13 at 3:23:19 PM, then filed at least one revision to it at 5:03:40 PM (the 5:03:40 PM version is reflected below). The difference in rates between the two filings was, for the classes noted below, at most 0.0002 cents per kWh
