PECO Withdraws Applications For Distribution Rate Increases (Amid PA Policymaker Affordability Concerns)
The following story is brought free of charge to readers by VertexOne, the exclusive EDI provider of EnergyChoiceMatters.com
PECO has withdrawn at the Pennsylvania PUC both of its recently filed electricity and natural gas distribution rate cases, which had included proposed increases in delivery rates
With respect to the retail market, PECO had, among other things, proposed in the gas rate case to increase the bypassable Gas Procurement Charge (GPC) to $0.0452 per Mcf, from the current $0.0360 per Mcf, and to marginally increase its gas POR discount rates (details here)
In the electric rate case, PECO had proposed under a pilot to offer to residential customers discounted leases on battery energy storage systems (BESS), with the systems owned by PECO (details here)
PECO stated that the withdrawals were without prejudice to any filing in the future
for changes in rates, rules, and regulations
The Office of Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro said that the withdrawal, "is the result of the Governor’s direct engagement with the utility company," after Shapiro "demanded" withdrawal
The withdrawal is also notable as PECO's parent, Exelon, generally advocates for the return of utility-owned generation. Utility rate hikes, including those proposed by PECO, have been highlighted by opponents of utility-owned generation
