SCANA Energy, SCANA's retail natural gas marketing business in Georgia, reported earnings of $22 million for the first quarter of 2011, compared to $30 million for the first quarter of 2010.
The decrease is primarily attributable to lower throughput due to weather. While the first quarter of 2011 was colder than normal, SCANA said that it was not as cold as the very abnormal first quarter of 2010.
As of March 31, 2011, SCANA Energy was serving "approximately" 460,000 customers. As of December 31, 2010, SCANA Energy had described its customer count as "over" 460,000.
The customer count as of March 31, 2010 was 465,000.
SCANA has not yet filed a 10-Q.
