NStar Seeing Decline in Residential Migration

NStar is generally seeing a decline in the number of residential electric customers taking competitive supply, according to recently updated stats from the Massachusetts DPU.

The DPU has now posted electric migration stats for the months of August, September, and October 2011. The most recent stats had been from July 2011.

Matters has compiled a comparison of migration levels, by accounts, in July, September, and October.

With few exceptions, NStar saw a decline in residential migration for October, particularly among the non-low income residential class.

At Commonwealth Electric, non-low income residential migration for October declined by 2,900 accounts versus the September total. At Boston Edison, non-low income residential migration for October declined by 300 accounts versus the September total, and at Cambridge Electric Light Co., non-low income residential migration for October declined by 10 accounts versus the September total

In contrast, Massachusetts Electric (National Grid) saw a net increase of 1,400 migrated non-low income residential customers from September to October. This follows net growth of 259 migrated non-low income residential customers from July to August, and net growth of 867 accounts from August to September.
