Online shopping website CurrentChoice.com has launched service, starting with the Duquesne Light market.

CurrentChoice.com has signed agreements with energy suppliers American Power Partners LLC; TriEagle Energy; and North American Power.

CurrentChoice.com expects new suppliers to be added to the site soon.

Notably, in initially presenting a table of offers to customers, CurrentChoice.com expresses offers in terms of monthly savings versus the Price to Compare (in both dollar and percent terms), rather than expressing the offer in terms of a per kWh rate, though it does list the kWh rate if the customer selects specific information about the product, or if they compare the product to another.

The site lets customers compare selected plans side by side, including on categories such as monthly savings, contract type, renewable content, and early termination fees.

Customers can also authorize CurrentChoice.com to access their historic usage to receive savings estimates based on their personal usage.

"We have used design, technology, attention to detail, and a focus on the user experience to simplify what is otherwise a confusing and sometimes frustrating as well as time-consuming process," said CurrentChoice.com co-founder Alan Lehmann, who added, "We've created something that's intuitive and is easy for everyone to use no matter what level of online experience people may have."

CurrentChoice.com said that its site also enables customers to track their energy usage, receive information on how to save energy, and learn about federal and state tax incentives for making homes more energy efficient.

As only reported in Matters, CurrentChoice.com is licensed in several additional markets, including Illinois, New Jersey, Massachusetts, and Maryland (see 2/22)
