Residential Migration to Competitive Supply Up in All Maryland Service Areas

Residential migration to competitive natural gas supply increased during the last quarter of the year at all of Maryland's utilities with residential choice programs, according to the latest stats from the PSC.

The PSC's natural gas migration stats as of December 31, 2011 are available here.

A comparison of the number of accounts migrated, and percent of accounts migrated, versus the quarter ending September 2011 as compiled by Matters is available here.

From September 30, 2011 to December 31, 2011, Baltimore Gas & Electric saw the number of residential gas customers on competitive supply increase by 4,400 accounts, up from growth of 4,200 accounts from June to September.

Washing Gas Light saw a reversal of the decline in residential migration, with the number of residential customers on competitive supply growing by 2,400 accounts from September 30 to December 31. From June 30 to September 30, residential migration had declined by 800 accounts.

At Columbia Gas, where the choice program will soon be terminated, the number of residential customers grew by 27 accounts from September 30 to December 31, versus growth of 16 accounts from June 30 to September 30.

As a percent of residential accounts, migration to competitive supply is 16.8% at BGE, 18.1% at WGL, and 2.9% at Columbia.
