The Maryland PSC this morning granted Vivint, Inc. an electric broker license. As previously reported, Vivint will be acting as an agent, marketing for Constellation Energy. While Chairman Douglas Nazarian said that an agent may not fit precisely into the broker category under the PSC's licensing regime, he noted that the Commission has granted broker licenses to agents in the past, and said that he would rather have them licensed as brokers rather than being unlicensed. Vivint was also directed to clarify its marketing scripts to ensure that it is clear that savings associated with its various electricity management services (smart thermostat, etc.) are separate from electing a competitive supplier.
