ChoosePAWind.com Requests That PECO Promote Website to Customers

ChoosePAWind.com, a website which promotes Pennsylvania-based wind energy to retail customers, has asked that PECO be required to promote the website as part of its electric default service plan.

As previously reported, PECO has proposed in its default service plan ending its add-on wind REC program for default service customers. As the PECO wind rider is eliminated, PECO proposed that it would refer current PECO wind customers to interested electric generation suppliers (EGSs) who can offer these customers a "green energy" product.

ChoosePAWind.com, in a prehearing memo, said that PECO should also direct customers to its website for alternative wind products as the PECO-offered product is terminated, asking for similar treatment to the promotion of the impartial state-run PA Power Switch website, and the Office of Consumer Advocate site.

"ChoosePAWind believes that referrals by PECO should include a reference to ChoosePAWind," ChoosePAWind said.

Specifically, ChoosePAWind.com said that it, "wants to make sure that there is some written notice to PECO's customers concerning the availability of local Pennsylvania 'green energy' products, and that said notice includes a reference to ChoosePAWind - as well as PA PowerSwitch and the Consumer Shopping Guides provided by the Office of Consumer Advocate."

As previously noted, most of the companies listed on ChoosePAWind.com are REC or wholesale suppliers only, not load serving retail suppliers, with the exception of The Energy Cooperative, and Community Energy (which holds an aggregator and broker/marketer license but currently markets supply from Verde Energy for load-following service).

Green Mountain Energy Company said in a prehearing memo that, "it should be EGSs to whom PECO will refer such [former wind rider] customers."
