Revised Ohio Stats Show Smaller, But Still Significant, Decline in Shopping at Duke Energy Ohio

The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio has posted updated electric migration statistics as of March 31, 2012 which confirm a large drop in residential shopping at Duke Energy Ohio, though smaller than the preliminary statistics indicated.

Matters first noted that the preliminary migration data for March 31, 2012 posted by PUCO early last month showed 151,000 residential electric customers taking competitive supply at Duke Energy Ohio, versus the 189,000 residential shoppers as of December 31, 2011. This indicated a decline of 38,000 shoppers, or 20%, from December 31, 2011

PUCO's updated stats now show that 168,000 residential electric customers were taking competitive supply at Duke Energy Ohio as of March 31, 2012.

This is still a significant decline of 11% from December 31, 2011, representing the loss of 21,000 residential customers on competitive supply over three months.

Per the updated stats, 27.35% of residential customers at Duke Energy Ohio were on competitive supply at March 31, 2012, versus 30.86% as of December 31, 2011.

No other service territory saw a material revision in residential migration data in the updated stats; though the AEP Ohio territory has now been combined into a single reporting area as opposed to the former Columbus Southern Power and Ohio Power territories.
