Direct Energy has launched a new marketing campaign for its previously launched Power-To-Go prepaid product in ERCOT, stating that adoption of the product could save Texans $1 billion.
Based on data from the last 12 months, Direct Energy's prepaid customers used on average 18 percent less electricity than customers on postpaid plans.
Additionally, Direct Energy's prepaid customers use less energy during peak hours, approximately 27 percent less during the weekday hours of 3:00-6:00 p.m., Direct Energy said.
The $1 billion figure was based on estimated customer peak-time savings of $500 million from 2 million homes using Power to Go, and $500 million in lower energy costs in the market from the associated reduction in demand.
