FERC Approves Cleveland Locational Deliverability Area

FERC accepted as filed PJM's petition to create a new Cleveland Locational Deliverability Area (LDA) as part of the capacity obligations required to be met by load serving entities through the capacity market (see prior story). FERC rejected protests that EPA nonattainment designations in the Cleveland area will necessarily prevent the entry of new generation to serve this area, or otherwise expose Load Serving Entities to unreasonably high capacity costs.

Dynegy Danskammer to Retire 500 MW

Dynegy Danskammer, LLC provided written notice to the New York PSC that it intends to discontinue operation of the Danskammer Generating Station in Newburgh, New York, and permanently retire all six generating units at the facility, which account for about 500 MW. The Danskammer facility has been unavailable to the power grid for more than 60 days, due to flooding and related damage from hurricane Sandy. Following the retirement of the facility, Dynegy will transfer the facility to a salvage company to dismantle the facility

Louis Dreyfus Highbridge Energy Re-branded as Castleton Commodities International

Louis Dreyfus Highbridge Energy, LLC has been re-branded as Castleton Commodities International, LLC after completion of a previously reported ownership change (see prior story for details). In October 2012, DF Energy Acquisition LLC, a private investment vehicle owned by Glenn Dubin, and an independent investor group, including investment vehicles established by family trusts created by Paul Tudor Jones and Timothy Barakett, and Continental Grain Company / Paul Fribourg, agreed to acquire substantially all of the outstanding equity in Louis Dreyfus Highbridge Energy. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
