Pennsylvania Sees Marginal Aggregate Residential Shopping Growth, But Driven by Single Utility
Copyright 2013 EnergyChoiceMatters.com.
Pennsylvania saw marginal growth in the number of residential electric customers on competitive supply in the most recent week, but the gains were largely driven by a single utility.
From about May 16 to May 22 (reporting date varies slightly by utilities), Pennsylvania saw the aggregate number of residential electric customers on competitive supply increase by 3,000, up slightly from the week-ago growth of 2,100.
Unlike the prior week, no utilities saw a net decline in residential shopping in the most recent week, but at some utilities (notably PECO and Duquesne Light), net growth is barely outpacing churn. As previously reported, PECO will be instituting a lower residential Price to Compare on June 1, and the Duquesne Light residential Price to Compare is estimated to crater from 9.89¢ to 6.65¢.
Specifically, the weekly net growth (loss) in residential shoppers at each utility from about May 16 to about May 22 (reporting date varies slightly by utility) was as follows:
Duquesne Light 113 Met-Ed 1,485 PECO 103 Penelec 358 Penn Power 85 PPL 210 West Penn Power 666
