The Connecticut PURA has assigned docket 13-06-21 for an, "Investigation Into the Trade Practices of Starion Energy, Inc., Direct Energy Services, LLC, and Connecticut Gas and Electric, Inc."

In a request to open the docket, PURA Staff said: "In recent months the Authority has received numerous customer complaints regarding billing, slamming and quality of service against Starion Energy, Inc., Direct Energy Services, LLC and Connecticut Gas and Electric, Inc. (collectively, the Companies). An investigation is necessary to determine whether the Companies trade practices are in violation of Conn. Gen. Stat. §§ 16-245o and 16-245s as well as the Connecticut Unfair and Deceptive Trade Practices Act."

Nothing substantive has been filed in the new docket at this time.

PURA also recently issued a final order to open an investigation of Connecticut Gas and Electric concerning its alleged use of daily variable rates (click here for prior story for discussion of this issue); it was not clear if Connecticut Gas and Electric's inclusion in the new docket listed above is merely a re-docketing of this matter, or is separate.

Connecticut Gas and Electric provided the following statement to Matters:

"CTG&E is fully cooperating with PURA regarding this matter and believes that it has materially complied with the spirit and intent of all applicable rules and regulations. CTG&E supports PURA's efforts to manage the deregulated marketplace in Connecticut and to help consumers make informed choices regarding their energy supply."
