Another Texas retail electric provider is taking steps to expand into the Northeast retail energy markets.

Specifically, Source Power & Gas LLC applied for an Ohio electric supplier license to serve all customer classes in all service areas.

Source Power & Gas' intent to expand to the Northeast was tipped by its receipt of FERC market-based rate authority, first reported by EnergyChoiceMatters.com, though the grant of MBR authority was not dispositive as to its retail expansion plans.

Notably, Source Power & Gas said in its Ohio electric supplier application that its, "principal business is as a retail marketer of electricity and gas." (emphasis added).

Though this is implied by its name, to date it has not engaged in mass market natural gas supply, but such expansion appears likely.
