The following story is brought free of charge to readers by EC Infosystems, the exclusive EDI provider of EnergyChoiceMatters.com
Community Energy, Inc. is withdrawing from the Connecticut Clean Energy Options program, a state-sanctioned program under which selected providers could offer RECs to customers, billed through the utility bill, without changing the customer's supplier of electricity
"Based on changes in the REC supply and forward markets, Community Energy requests approval to terminate participation in the Program and to work with the Authority following notification of customers to relinquish its supplier license and end Community Energy’s participation on November 30, 2022," Community Energy said in a filing
Community Energy will end service to customers no sooner than 30 days after sending a customer notice. Between ending service to customers and November 30, 2022, Community Energy will determine load information and procure sufficient renewable energy certificates (RECs) to meet all outstanding REC obligations for the Program. Community Energy will provide its final REC data by November 30, 2022.
As the program is an add-on to the customer's current supply, Community Energy's exit does not impact from whom the customer receives electricity supply (e.g. default service or competitive retail supplier)
