Nightpeak Energy announced today the successful financial close and commercial operation of its 150 MW, two-hour duration Bocanova 2 battery storage project in Southeast Texas, in the ERCOT market
The project reached commercial operation on September 17, doubling the Bocanova site's capacity to 300 MW
As first reported by EnergyChoiceMatters.com on October 9, Nightpeak Energy Solutions LLC has applied for an Option 2 Texas retail electric provider certificate
Bocanova 2 is the second phase of Nightpeak's battery storage development in Brazoria County, near the Houston metropolitan area. The first 150 MW phase, Bocanova 1, began commercial operation in August 2025.
Bocanova 2 uses Tesla's Megapack 2 XL battery storage systems. Operating under a long-term offtake agreement with, "an investment-grade counterparty," the project was financed through a tax equity bridge loan and construction-to-term loan with MUFG Bank. U.S. Bank provided traditional tax equity.
Since its founding in 2022, Nightpeak has developed and acquired a portfolio of over 1 GW of "operating and de-risked capacity" spanning gas-fired generation, battery storage and powered land development
