Independence Energy Begins Offering Service in ERCOT

NRG Energy's network marketer Independence Energy has begun offering electricity in Texas.

Matters had first reported that Reliant Energy Texas Retail, LLC, holder of REP certificate 10178, had changed its name to Everything Energy, LLC, with a new trade name of Independence Energy.

In ERCOT, Independence Energy is offering residential customers a 100% wind plan, at a fixed rate. In other markets, Independence Energy has typically offered a 20% green plan and 100% green plan, both on a monthly variable basis.

Independence Energy's residential ERCOT offering is a 12-month fixed rate which includes a monthly charge of $9.95 if usage is below 1,000 kWh, and an early termination fee of $150.

Average all-in pricing by service area, for a residential customer using 1,000 kWh per month, is as follows (cents per kWh).

Oncor: 9.5

CenterPoint Energy Houston Electric: 10.6

AEP Texas Central: 10.6

AEP Texas North: 10.3

Texas-New Mexico Power: 10.1

For no additional charge, all new Independence Energy customers are eligible for an unemployment protection program run by a third party vendor, Grand Incentives. In the event of involuntary job loss of the primary wage earner of the household, the program provides payment on the Independence Energy electric bill of up to $300 per month for three consecutive months.
