The Georgia PSC approved the previously reported stipulation with MXenergy to resolve Staff allegations of slamming.
"I think this decision sends a very strong message that this Commission will not tolerate unauthorized switching of marketers," Commission Vice-Chairman Chuck Eaton said of the stipulation.
The PSC directed that a $50,000 payment from MXenergy contemplated under the settlement shall be divided equally between the Salvation Army and the Heat Energy Assistance Team. These funds will provide assistance to low income customers in the Atlanta Gas Light Company distribution area.
As previously reported, MXenergy shall also pay $735 to each of 138 affected customers. MXenergy will also pay to each of the affected consumers any and all switching fees, reconnection fees, disconnection fees, early termination and/or deposits assessed by their preferred suppliers in order to resume their natural gas service.
