N.Y. Commission Recommends Privatizing LIPA
New York's Moreland Commission, which has investigated several issues related to utility storm response, has recommended that the Long Island Power Authority be privatized, though it noted several obstacles remain for this recommendation. "There is no question that LIPA could be operated much more efficiently than it is today, particularly if it was purchased by an existing electric utility company which could share staff, facilities and systems," an interim Commission report said. Although LIPA currently offers retail access, the current public power structure is not conducive to retail choice.
Texas Approves Amendment Reflecting New Owner for Retail Provider
The Public Utility Commission of Texas approved an amendment to the REP certificate of Veteran Energy LLC to reflect its purchase by an affiliate of Infinite Energy, Inc., which was first reported by Matters (see prior story)
