The Pennsylvania Attorney General said that it has been getting numerous complaints that customers are encountering sales agents offering an energy supply product who fraudulently claim to be from the utility, and warned customers that products offered by such agents raise the customer's rate significantly.
Specifically, the Attorney General said that customers have complained that agents have fraudulently claimed to be from PPL or Duquesne Light, and are offering what is claimed to be a new low-rate energy product that actually raises consumers' rates significantly.
The Attorney General warned customers to be very careful with this kind of sales approach, whether it be done through door-to-door or telemarketing.
PPL Corporation echoed the Attorney General's warning to customers to beware of telemarketers or door-to-door salesmen claiming to be PPL employees.
PPL Corporation said neither PPL Electric Utilities nor PPL EnergyPlus engage in telemarketing or door-to-door sales for the purpose of encouraging residential customers to switch energy suppliers.
"Customers should beware of these false claims and avoid sharing personal information with these individuals," said Daniel J. McCarthy, vice president of Corporate Communications and Community Affairs.
