Network marketer Independence Energy, a wholly owned subsidiary of Energy Plus Holdings LLC (an NRG Energy, Inc. company), has launched electric service in two new service areas, set a date for another market launch, and has confirmed that it will expand to the natural gas market.
Specifically, Independence Energy now offers electric service at Met-Ed and Penelec, and said that it is set to launch electric marketing in Ohio in "late October." Independence Energy received its Ohio supplier license Friday (see story).
The Met-Ed and Penelec entry, and Ohio license, had been first reported by Matters last month.
Independence Energy said that its first confirmed area for Ohio electric marketing is Duke Energy Ohio, to be followed shortly by Dayton Power and Light.
Additionally, Independence Energy has confirmed that it will expand to natural gas marketing, although specific plans are still in the works and subject to change. However, initial markets being targeted for entry include New Jersey and Ohio.
At Met-Ed, Independence Energy is offering residential customers a variable rate with 20% green power currently priced at 6.5¢/kWh. A variable, 100% green power product is currently priced at 7.8¢/kWh.
At Penelec, Independence Energy is offering residential customers a variable rate with 20% green power currently priced at 6.2¢/kWh. A variable, 100% green power product is currently priced at 7.6¢/kWh.
As is customary with Independence Energy products, the plans include either 5% (for the 20% green plan) or 10% (for the 100% green plan) cash back.
Commercial service is also available.
Independence Energy also recently added a six-month fixed product, with 100% wind power, to its suite of Texas offerings, which also include a 12-month 100% wind product, and a 20% wind variable rate product.
